Newcastle United will no doubt be hoping to make some additions in January, with the club desperate to stave off the threat of relegation after their recent takeover.
While fans will want to see some big signings, the club will also have to be realistic in who they will be able to attract in the middle of a season in which they are likely to be stuck down at the wrong end of the Premier League table.
Some solid signings to consolidate their place in the league will be the aim, even if that does not necessarily result in the most eye-catching players arriving on Tyneside.
However, some are still dreaming big.
Speaking on Bein Sports, former Newcastle and Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given said the club should go all out to sign the likes of Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe as soon as the January transfer window.
"Why not a Haaland or Mbappé up top?"

Players always want to sign big name players and fans want to see the biggest names coming in January. For me, I would go all out to get the biggest names here.
I would like at the spine of the team. Maybe a [Kalidou] Koulibaly in defence, a Declan Rice in midfield, and why not a [Erling] Haaland or [Kylian] Mbappe up top?
I know you might laugh and fans watching the TV will say 'there's no way they can do that', that there are baby steps and you have to do certain things to get to that level.
I understand that, but if I was at this club with the backing they have now, I would go all out to get the best players. That is going to have a snowball effect and it will make more players want to come to the football club.
It would be exciting to get some big names here and the fans would be buzzing for that.
As much as their supporters would like to see it happen, we wouldn't be holding out too much hope for moves such as the ones Given has suggested in the months ahead.
