Shay Given along with Gordon Cowans have both been promoted to the Aston Villa first team coaching staff following the suspension of assistant manager Ian Culverhouse and director of football operations Gary Karsa.
Given who has long been out of favour as a player at Villa had a successful loan spell at Middlesborough earlier this year.
Of the promotion, Given said:
As players, it's important that each and every one of us take responsibility right now and I'm delighted to play my part in helping the manager and the team go and try to win on Saturday.
Villa manager Paul Lambert added:
I'm delighted to have Gordon and Shay to assist me in preparing the team for Saturday which is what the whole group is focussed on.
The club have said there will be an internal investigation regarding Culverhouse and Karsa, though they have not stated why.
