Cork-born Coloradio Rapids defender, Shane O'Neill, who is the son of Cork All-Ireland winner, Colm, and nephew of Kerry great, Maurice Fitzgerald, has been called up to the US team for a January training camp.
He tweeted this evening to say that he was excited about the opportunity which could lead to him being part of the US squad for the World Cup this summer.
Really happy to be called up by the U.S national team for the January camp... Excited about the opportunity!

O'Neill did tell a reporter that he was not ruling out playing for Ireland in the future though.
Spoke with Shane O’Neill just now- says he’s excited for the opportunity to play for US, won’t rule out Ireland in future but US is focus.

Speaking to Balls.ie last year, he said that his parents would not mind him playing for Ireland but that it was a tough decision.
O'Neill is still only twenty and certainly has plenty of potential. It could be time for a certain FAI-employed Corkman to step in and exert some influence.
