Ireland international Shane Duffy found game time limited last season at Brighton due to the partnership formed between Lewis Dunk, Joel Veltman and Adam Webster.

After a difficult loan spell at Celtic the year before, Duffy's career seemed to be on a slight downward trajectory, but The Athletic reported earlier today that Fulham were close to signing the centre back on a season-long loan ahead of the start of the new season.

The deal has now been confirmed with Fuham announcing their latest signing.

Fulham have been desperately looking to bolster their centre back options ahead of the start of the season and add competition to their defensive ranks.

Last season, Marco Silva opted for the centre back pairing of Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo throughout their impressive Championship campaign, but Duffy's experience will likely see him push one of the duo out of the side.

Duffy will bring a wealth of Premier League experience to last season's Championship winners, with 55 caps for Ireland and 114 career appearances in the English top flight.

Fulham close in on Shane Duffy

Fulham have become known as a 'Premier League Yo-Yo Team' over the past few seasons, constantly being too good for the Championship but not having the quality to remain in the Premier League.

This time round, manager Marco Silva has recruited well and Duffy is his side's sixth signing of the season.

Silva signed Bernd Leno earlier this week in a deal worth around £8 million. Prior to this, Andreas Pereira, Kevin Mbabu, Joao Palhinha and Andreas Soloman all penned deals at Craven Cottage ahead of tomorrow's Premier League opener against Liverpool.

It's without a doubt a great move for Shane Duffy and the Craven Cottage outfit.

When given a consistent run of games in the Premier League, Duffy has shown over the years that he is a hugely influential player and could be vital to Fulham if they're to remain in the Premier League this year.
