Republic of Ireland international Sinclair Armstrong is set to bring his time at QPR to an end, with the striker agreeing a deal to join Championship side Bristol City.

Armstrong experienced a breakthrough season at Loftus Road in the 2023/24 campaign, playing 40 games in all competitions. He would score four goals along the way, and while that is not necessarily the most impressive strike rate, his potential was obvious to those who saw him play.

The Dubliner went into this summer with only 12 months remaining on his QPR contract, with little signs of the player agreeing a new deal. He would draw interest from a number of Championship clubs as a result, with the likes of Stoke City and Sunderland also keen on his signature.

However, he is now set to join Bristol City after they agreed a £2.5million fee to bring him to Ashton Gate.

Shamrock Rovers land windfall from transfer of Ireland striker

Sinclair Armstrong joined QPR in 2020, having played his schoolboy football at Cherry Orchard before then linking up with Shamrock Rovers.

The Irish Independent are reporting that there was a 25 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that saw him swap the Tallaght Stadium for London, with Shamrock Rovers now set to receive a windfall of around £625,000 as a result of his latest transfer.

This will be another financial boost for the League of Ireland club, who also guaranteed a payment of €1.7million after their Champions League win over Vikingur Reykjavik earlier this week.

Armstrong has been a staple in the Ireland U21 squad in recent times, also making his senior debut in the 2-1 loss to the Netherlands back in September. He is now set to join fellow Ireland internationals Jason Knight and Mark Sykes.

Should he make an impact over the opening few weeks of the season, it would not be a surprise to see him handed another senior call-up by new boss Heimir Hallgrimsson during the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.
