Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck has praised Shamrock Rovers' fans after their Europa Conference League clash on Thursday.

Rovers went down 3-0 in Belgium after some calamitous defensive errors. The result leaves them with just one point from their opening two games in the competition.

Their fans, however, travelled in numbers to the Belgian city, and the away end was packed out for the game.

Gent manager Vanhaezebrouck singled out the Shamrock Rovers fans for praise after the game, pointing out that they had also been impeccably behaved during their stay in the city.

Gent boss: Shamrock Rovers fans "an example to others"

It was a night to forget on the pitch for Shamrock Rovers against Gent, as they fell to a 3-0 defeat in their second Europa Conference League game.

It took Gent less than 20 minutes to go 2-0 up, with the second goal coming from an unfortunate slip from Daniel Cleary. The game was already over by that early stage.

Speaking after the game, Vanhaezebrouck said:

Congratulations to fans of the Shamrock Rovers. They stayed here yesterday in Gent, behaving fantastically well, enjoying themselves but creating no problems at all.

So really I want to appreciate the way they are coming to Belgium, it's an example for everyone and congratulations that they are here with a thousand people.

The away end was indeed packed out for the game on Thursday night, with the Rovers fans travelling well.

They have another two away days to go in the Conference League, against Molde of Norway and Djurgarden of Sweden. They managed to nick a draw in Tallaght in their opening game against Djurgarden, a result that will give them hope despite the poor showing in Belgium.

They will hope to add a first ever European group stage win before their campaign is out.
