A 93rd minute Guido Pizarro goal completed an epic comeback for Sevilla against Liverpool on Tuesday night. 3-0 down at half-time, the Spanish side came back to pick up a point at the final whistle.
According to reports from the Spanish media, the Sevilla comeback had its roots in a half-time team talk from manager Eduardo Berizzo. The Argentine reportedly told his players during the break that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
That the 48-year-old is suffering from the illness was confirmed by Sevilla on Wednesday morning.
The medical services of Sevilla FC report that the coach of the first team, Eduardo Berizzo, has been diagnosed with an adenocarcinoma (malignant tumour) of the prostate.
The future examinations will allow us to decide which are the steps to follow regarding the treatment.
Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega said after the game:
We had to come out with a different attitude for the fans and for the boss, he made us play like that.
