Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic was the victim of an attack by a fan during his side's Europa League clash with PSV Eindhoven on Thursday.

The idiot fan ran onto the pitch in the closing stages of the game appearing to punch the Serbian keeper.

Dmitrovic calmly wrestled him to the ground, winning the battle, before stewards arrived to remove the supporter.

Dmitrovic managed to see out the game as despite losing 2-0 on the night, the Spanish side went through 3-2 on aggregate.

"He came and pushed me from behind," Dmitrovic told reporters after the game.

"He was probably angry about the result and a bit crazy already.

"He tried to hit me and I managed to grab him and wait for him to security will arrive.

"It's never nice to see this in football, it shouldn't happen and from now on I hope these things are well punished."

A number of other Europa League play-off ties took place on Thursday.

Manchester United join Premier League rivals Arsenal in the last 16 of the tournament as they beat Barcelona 2-1 (4-3 on aggregate). Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the Spaniards, but second-half goals from Fred and Antony completed a comeback.

Angel Di Maria scored a hat-trick as Juventus booked their place in the next round, beating Nantes 3-0 in France.

Sporting Lisbon advanced beating Midtjylland 4-0 in Denmark, while Bayer Leverkusen advanced by the narrowest of margins as they beat Monaco on penalties.

Union Berlin who are in the Bundesliga title race beat Dutch side Ajax 3-1, while Roma came from behind to beat Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 on aggregate. There is still one more Europa League play-off tie to be decided between Rennes and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Ferencvaros, Union Saint-Gilloise, Fenerbahce, Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Feyenoord and Frieburg are also all left in the competition.
