The world is once more worried about Paul Gascoigne.
The man who lit up that summer in 1990 returned to hospital today following a long drinking binge. Gascoigne is being evicted by his landlord after complaints from neighbours about noise levels. A friend told the Daily Mirror that this development accounts for his recent drinking binge.
The photos which have surfaced online of the footballer looking aged and frail have horrified football fans.
According to the Mirror, as he was taken to hospital, Gascoigne phoned a friend to say 'I am in trouble, can you please come and help me?'
Last year in a moving interview with ITV, he spoke emotionally about his fears over his illness, saying:
Hopefully it doesn't happen again, but if it does, I'm really sorry because I'm an alcoholic. But I'll keep on trying. I'll try me best til I actually can get this. Until then, I don't know if I can...
