Sergio Aguero says he believes Arsenal are dark horses for the Premier League title but he expects Liverpool and his former club Manchester City to battle it out once again for glory.

The new season gets underway on Friday night with Crystal Palace taking on Arsenal at Selhurst Park. Arsenal missed out on securing Champions League football last season by just one place, however expectations are high in North London following a good summer for Mikel Arteta's side, with the club winning all of their pre-season friendlies.

The club have also been productive in the transfer market. Gabriel Jesus was signed for just over €50 million from Man City, while the Gunners also raided the league champions to secure the services of Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko. Attacking midfielder Fábio Vieira was brought in from Porteuguese champions Porto.

Aguero worked under Arsenal boss Arteta while the Spanish manager was an assistant coach at Man City and believes the London club can do well this season. Arteta's "intense" style of management has been praised by his players.

“Arsenal are dark horses for the title after their transfer business, but Man City and Liverpool are clearly favourites,” the five-time Premier League winner told Stake.com.

"My candidates are Manchester City, which I think can repeat, Liverpool, Chelsea and I add Arsenal, which has strengthened very well and has had great games in the pre-season."

Everything will be very even, as it has been happening, but we will have to be attentive to Arsenal's performance, which has put together a great project with the help of Arteta and I think that this year they will give people something to talk about.

“I believe the top four will be Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal,” Aguero later added.

Arsenal will be looking to return to the Champions League next season having failed to make the competition since the 2016/2017 campaign. They will play in the Europa League group stage this season.
