Robbie Brady was sent off on Wednesday as Burnley picked up a vital win away to Huddersfield.
The Ireland international brought down Huddersfield's Isaac Mbenza as the Belgian raced away on a counter-attack in the 90th minute with Burnley 2-1 up.
Brady had just returned from a minor injury which kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the Christmas fixture list.
"That's the worst part about it, really, it's a loose challenge, no doubt - not a nasty one, Robbie's not like that," Burnley manager Sean Dyche told the Burnley Express after the game.
It's just loose, and the referee has no choice.
That is one of them, the only blot on it, we've been struggling to get numbers back, and we're just getting some back, including him, and then we get him banned. That's the way it goes.
Burnley play Barnsley in the FA Cup third round this weekend.
"Saturday was another chance to play, and he would have played, definitely, but what's done is done," added Dyche.
