Last year, Seán Cox couldn't watch his team in the Champions League final. He was in a coma following the random and horrific attack he suffered at the hands of Roma fans ahead of the competition's semi-final a month before.
Since then, as his beloved Reds soared to an incredible and unforgettable season. Seán and his family have struggled and fought with his rehabilitation, something which is an ongoing battle to this day.
The support of the club, its fans, and the people of Ireland was never lacking though, and was a big source of support to Seán's family.
Seán was temporarily discharged from the National Rehabilitation Hospital on Saturday evening so he could watch Liverpool play Spurs in the Champions League final at his home in Dunboyne. He did so surrounded by a small group of family and friends.
Following Liverpool's win, Sean joined in an emotional rendition of 'You’ll Never Walk Alone'.
“On Seán’s behalf," said his wife Martina, "I want to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Liverpool Football Club on winning the Champions League.
"The club and its fans have taken Seán, our family and I, into their hearts since Seán’s attack last year. Nobody could be happier than the Cox family for Jurgen Klopp, his players and the wonderful Liverpool fans.
"Seán watched the game with us at home, proudly wearing a signed Liverpool jersey sent to him by the club's CEO Peter Moore last week. He was overjoyed when the final whistle blew and Liverpool were crowned champions."

It's a sight that will delight Liverpool fans all over the world. The Meath man wasn't far from their thoughts on the full-time whistle last night with a huge number of them very quick to mention the man who should have been with the Scouse faithful in Madrid.
