You hear a lot of stories about professional soccer players or rugby players who grew up playing GAA and credits it for some of their skill and values. The likes of Ian Madigan and Robbie Henshaw credit their aerial ability with catching a football around GAA pitches.
One such soccer player is all around good guy Seamus Coleman. The popular Everton right-back will be one of Martin O'Neill's key players in Euro 2016, and at 27-years-old still has some good years left in him.
It's strange for a 27-year-old to be thinking about he wants to do after his career, but Coleman was never your typical player. According the Donegal man, he appreciates the family culture in Everton - relating it to a GAA team. He also admits that he'll retire to Killybegs when he retires and play some GAA:
I’m definitely going home, I’m a homebird. I’ll go back to Killybegs when I finish but I think it’ll be a case of playing for Killybegs GAA and St Catherine’s, the local [soccer] club. I don’t know about the League of Ireland.
They don't make players like Coleman any more.
