Seamus Coleman is in Dublin preparing for Saturday's friendly with the United States, but is evidently not too far from the hearts of Everton fans. While Coleman was training with his Irish teammates in Abbottstown yesterday, Everton were belatedly unveiling Marco Silva as their new manager, having been forced into a brief marriage of convenience with Sam Allardyce.
It's fair to say that Everton fans were happy to be rid of Allardyce, but when Coleman was asked at an Irish press conference for his reaction to the change in manager, he directed the focus onto the players.
I respect every manager who comes into Everton Football Club, as they are all coming in to do the right thing and try to win games. Some style people like; some styles people don't like. I worked very hard for the manager and he worked very hard to try and get us up the league.
It's always very easy for us players to hide behind the manager. We've had three or four now, and maybe we've been getting away from some of the stick that's been flying around because it's been on the manager be it Roberto, Ronald, Sam, Moyesie before that. It's about time us players step up to the plate now. We've not been close to winning anything for a very long time.
Cue an avalanche of impressed Evertonians.
Ya see this lad he’s everything our club needs!! He’s hit the nail on the head here he really has.. it’s time for the lads to kick on.. COYB 💙 https://t.co/FIzntJCeDx

Compare these comments, spoken whilst away on international duty, to those of Lukaku. Whereas Lukaku 'needed to move away ' for Champions League and trophies, Coleman is looking within. He's a fucking legend. https://t.co/7Oo5XFwXC9
