Ronny Deila is not the most popular man in the green and white half of Glasgow at the moment. The 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen this week has seen the Hoops manager come in for a barrage of criticism from the Parkhead faithful and it would appear that some of that criticism may have fallen on the wrong side of the law.
The defeat at Pittodrie leaves Celtic just three points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership and as tends to happen, fans decided to vent their anger in a variety of ways with one such way being to suggest that the IRA needs to come in to 'sort things out' around Parkhead.
According to the Evening Times in Glasgow, police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched after a number of messages were posted to huddleboard.net, a Celtic fan forum, under the heading 'Time for the IRA to step in'.
The thread is said to have been started by a fan going under the name PeterK and while the Evening Times accept that many of the responses to the thread were negative towards the original poster, there was some support for the for the idea to 'the IRA to step in and sort this mess out'.
One message suggested that it 'could be worth a try, maybe they play better kneecapped.'
The Evening Times, who called the comments 'bigoted bile', spoke to a police source who confirmed that such matters are treated seriously with an investigation already under way.
Of course fans are entitled to be upset after two consecutive losses but these messages are completely unacceptable. Writing that anyone should be shot or kneecapped is deplorable.
These individuals will be tracked down and an investigation is already under way to trace whoever is responsible.
Having earlier claimed that he would not quite Celtic in light of the current troubles, Deila later had something of a change of heart, telling reporters that if Aberdeen won the league, 'my future is over here. I wouldn’t see any reason to continue then'.
