Ispwich had their biggest result in decades after claiming a long-awaited Premier League victory and Ireland's Sammie Szmodics was central to their success.
Szmodics, who was a goal machine for Blackburn in the Championship last season before his well-earned move to The Tractor Boys, has adjusted to life well in the Premier League.
Ipswich have found their new surroundings a challenge despite some spirited displays, going the first 10 games of the campaign without victory.
Ipswich had last won a Premier League game in April of 2002, 22-and-a-half years before stunning Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
It was Szmodics who opened the scoring and in stunning style, finding the back of the net with a well-taken overhead kick.
Liam Delap, who had been linked with the Republic of Ireland senior setup in the past, added a second to give the underdogs a cushion.
Rodrigo Bentancur's header proved to be a mere consolation goal despite a jarring wait for Kieran McKenna's side who battled through nine minutes of injury time.
Sam Szmodics celebrated win with Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran, a life-long Ipswich supporter and minority shareholder in the club, was in attendance for the win in London.
Szmodics - who has become a regular in the Ireland setup - took to social media to share an image with the singer-songwriter after the win.
Over kick, win and a smudge with big Ed. GET IN THERE."
Ipswich boss McKenna, who is from Fermanagh, gave some clarity to Sheeran's cameo and joked that their pink kit - which was designed by Sheeran - brought them luck.
'He popped in and it was nice to see him," McKenna said after the win.
"He congratulated the boys and we had his designed kit on, so maybe it brought us a bit of luck."
Szmodics reflected on his thriller of an opening goal, telling reporters after the game that he had never scored an overhead kick before.
'It was behind me and it’s just something you practice in your garden," he said.
“I found a bit more space than I thought I did have and you just attempt one of those things. I heard the roar and it’s an amazing feeling, it’s probably one of the best goals in one of the best stadiums I’ve ever scored in so I’m really pleased. I’ve never scored an overhead kick so I’ll take that!"
Szmodics will turn his attention to Ireland's upcoming international double-header in the UEFA Nations League where he is expected to play a big part.
Heimír Hallgrimsson's side take on Finland on Thursday before they travel to London to take on England at Wembley Stadium.
