Irish Footballer Apologises On Sky Sports News Regarding Behaviour At Cheltenham

Earlier today, MK Dons announced that club was launching an investigation into the behaviour of one of its players at Cheltenham racecourse on Tuesday.

Samir Carruthers - unable to locate the appropriate facilities - was pictured urinating into a glass before the contents were poured off a balcony.

Carruthers, who has represented Ireland at U21 level, was situated in one of the racecourse's corporate boxes at the time. Given the presumably plush surroundings, a toilet can't have been too far away.

Images of the player, along with James Collins of Northampton Town committing the same offence, were carried in Wednesday's edition of The Sun.

Cheltenham announced earlier today that a booking which the group had for today had been cancelled.

In an attempt to stymie further indignation, Carruthers went on Sky Sports News this afternoon to apologise for his behaviour.

I just want to say I'm sorry to everyone, my family, the club, the chairman, everyone.

I wasn't raised up to do that and I've let everyone down. I have to take the criticism that comes with it. It's not something that should be laughed about. It's not an example that should be given to kids. I'm a role model and I have to live by my actions. I really am hurt by what I've done. It was a silly mistake.

They [MK Dons] are obviously let down by me and I am being disciplined for it.

I'm really sorry to Cheltenham as well because they took me in and I embarrassed everyone
