MMA fighter Sage Northcutt is currently a free agent after the UFC decided against resigning the American after his contract ran out with the promotion. This is despite the lightweight coming off of a three fight win streak, with the most recent win a second round TKO of Zak Ottow last July at UFC Fight Night dos Santos vs. Ivanov.
UFC president Dana White made an appearance on the UFC Unfiltered podcast earlier in the week and confirmed that the 22-year-old's contract had not been renewed, though he didn't rule out the UFC offering him a deal a few years down the line:
We let Sage go. Sage is young and Sage needs some work. Let him get some work in some other organizations and we will see where this kid ends up in a couple of years. Maybe we will pick him back up again.
His contract was up so we let him go.
Northcutt was 11-2 in his professional career in MMA, and currently trains with Urijah Faber's gym Team Alpha Male. There is no mention of the UFC's decision to part ways with Northcutt, who currently appears to be on holiday in Italy:
