Ryan Johansson has left Bayern Munich and joined Sevilla on a six-year deal.
Johansson had been at Bayern Munich since 2017.
He was born in Luxembourg to an Irish mother and Swedish father. All three countries have courted the midfielder who was part of the Bayern first-team during the 2019/20 pre-season.
The Irish Independent reported in December that the 18-year-old's family have sought legal advice regarding his international eligibility for Ireland.
He played competitively for Luxembourg but had presumed he could switch allegiance. He also played for the Ireland U19s in two friendlies last year.
However, FIFA decided that he could not switch as he played for Luxembourg before going securing Irish citizenship.
"It is a dream come true," he said regarding the move to Sevilla.
"I think Sevilla is a perfect club for me at this point in my career and I hope to play for the first team very soon. It was a very easy decision for me to come here, where I can improve and help the team in the future.
"I think I can progress at first with the reserves and adapt myself to the club so I can make the first team, hopefully it's very soon."
It's said that he will initially play for the Sevilla reserve team but will also train with the first team.
UPDATE: It appears Johannson has declared for Sweden.
Ryan Johansson’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya says he’ll play for Sweden, telling Expressen: “Ryan will represent Sweden in the future. It's been hard. There has been a lot of pressure from Ireland. They were very proud that he played for Bayern Munich.” #COYBIG
