17-year-old Bayern Munich player Ryan Johansson has reportedly chosen to play for Ireland.
According to The Times Ireland, the midfielder will be called up to the Ireland under-18 squad next month.
Johansson was born in Luxembourg to an Irish mother - Christine McCarthy from Mullingar - and a Swedish father.
He joined from French side Metz last summer after penning a long-term contract with Munich in February 2017.
"We've signed a very talented player in Ryan," Bayern scout Timon Pauls said at the time. "He confirmed our very good impression of him during training sessions."
The post-World Cup pre-season has been advantageous for Johansson. Players taking holidays following tournament has meant he has been involved with the first team.
Johansson has featured in three International Champions Cup pre-season games for Bayern so far. He played 20 minutes against PSG, started and played 45 minutes versus Juventus, and came off the bench for 15 minutes against Manchester City.
