The spoons of victory, as they are being called, are set to be the official musical instrument of this summer's World Cup, but unlike the ignorant blare of a vuvuzela, they are not going to wreck our collective heads in Russia.
'Lozhkas', as designer Rustam Nugmanov explains, are not going to provide any earaches this summer, unlike the caxirola in Brazil and the vuvuzela in South Africa:
When we were choosing an instrument which is typical for Russia., and reflects Russian cultural values, we had a choice of three: a clapper, a shaker and a spoon but to avoid problems faced by other countries, like in the case of the Brazilian caxirola, which sounds like a beehive and is a very loud instrument and does not allow you to clap a rhythym, we have chosen spoons.
Here's a demonstration of the lozhka in action:
And just for comparison, a quick reminder of what fans and viewers had to put up with in South Africa eight years ago:
A welcome upgrade.
