The A-League's grand final took place this morning and ended up drenched in controversy. Melbourne Victory got the, er, win, over Newcastle Jets. The only goal of the game proved decisive but divisive, with more than a hint of offside about the first phase of play. In spite of the presence of VAR, the goal decision was not reviewed.
It was ultimately a deeply frustrating day for Jets, and in the closing minutes, all emotion burbled and boiled over for their erstwhile Cork City striker, Roy O'Donovan.
He was given a straight red card for this appalling incident with the opposing goalkeeper:
