As hard as it is to believe for those of us who remember watching him play like it was yesterday, Roy Keane is 50. To celebrate his milestone birthday, we've been decided to republish just a few of the (many) Roy Keane stories we've shared over the years. A character like no other.
The year was 2014, and Gone Girl mania was sweeping the nation. Well, maybe not 'mania', but the film was doing all right, like.
Also, Roy Keane's second book was out, and he was gratuitously doing press with pretty much anyone who asked his publishers.
It spawned one of the greatest film reviews of all time:

This was part of an interview with ShortList magazine where Keane disputed the whole notion of Paul Scholes being 'too humble' or camera shy for television, saying that during his United days, the England midfielder simply couldn't be bothered with interviews. He added:
Well, he’s fucking doing it now, isn’t he? Maybe there’s more money involved now. And I’d tell him this if he was sat here in front of me.
Elsewhere in the interview, Keane revealed that he had been approached to do Celebrity Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here in the past:
Well, I couldn’t see it, but I am more open to stuff now. I’ve had the Celebrity Big Brother offers and the jungle stuff [I’m A Celebrity…]. I met the jungle people, but I thought, “Nah, not for me.” But the more you say no, the more determined they are to get you, so who knows? There’s more to life than football.
He also mentioned that he has no time for new players having to sing as an inauguration process, telling Shortlist:
If I was a player at a new club and someone said, “You’ve got to sing tonight,” I just fucking wouldn’t do it. I sing for nobody.
If you're bored, the full interview is here. And it's marvellous.
