There were some major developments in the search for the next Liverpool manager in recent days, with it being announced that Xabi Alonso would not be leaving Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
The Spaniard was seen as the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp over the coming months, with the former Reds star said to be the preferred choice at board level after his exploits in Germany in recent times. However, his commitment to Leverkusen has now left them looking at alternative options.
It has been suggested that Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amirom and Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi are the two favourites for the role at the moment.
Amirom has done a top class job in Portugal in recent times, with his tactical approach said to be quite similar to that of Jurgen Klopp.
As for De Zerbi, he has massively impressed since his arrival in English football, even if Brighton have struggled at times this season. His innovative attacking style of play and big persona certainly make him an attractive option for big clubs on the search for a new manager.
In saying that, some have doubts about his suitability to the job at Anfield.

Roy Keane has questions over Roberto De Zerbi to Liverpool links
Roberto De Zerbi is a hugely intriguing managerial prospect, although his mixed results at Brighton in recent times have led to some uncertainty about his candidacy for the Liverpool job.

"I've got my doubts"
Would Roberto De Zerbi be a good fit to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/YUGmcT7wm0— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) March 31, 2024
He has his own personality, every manager is different. I think that's probably a big plus to him.
Sometimes when you have a manager at a club, you would hope that he makes a commitment to the club when he is asked these questions. I suppose there's a bit of honesty there, he's not sure where his future is. That's a concern for Brighton over the next few months and what they're planning.
I look at his CV and I still have question marks about whether he is ready for that next step yet. For Liverpool, I've got my doubts.
His teams play a lovely brand of football, but I've still got doubts about what he has won to take that job.
It is said that Ruben Amirom is the favourite for the Liverpool job as things stand, although it seems that Roberto De Zerbi is still very much in the running for the role.
It is likely that there will be some major movement on that front over the coming weeks, with the club's owners no doubt hoping to have a new manager in place before the end of the season.
