Roy Keane Looked Utterly Baffled By Overlap's Combined Spain-England XI

One of the highlights of EURO 2024 TV watch has been the exasperation of Roy Keane at the antics of his fellow pundits during England games.

Once again on duty with ITV, Keane has been paired with Gary Neville and Ian Wright for the station's coverage of England during the tournament.

It has been a dramatic run to the final for Gareth Southgate's team, who stumbled through the group stages and looked set for a last-16 exit before a dramatic injury-time stunner from Jude Bellingham reignited their charge.

They would win Wednesday's semi-final against the Netherlands in similar fashion after Ollie Watkins' last-minute winner. Videos of Roy Keane's quietly dejected reaction to both goals went viral on social media.

Alongside their duties on ITV, Keane, Wright and Neville have continued their Stick to Football podcast with Sky Bet throughout the tournament, alongside Jill Scott.

Ahead of Sunday's EURO 2024 final against Spain, the predominantly English panel picked their combined XI from the two sides. Needless to say that the sole Irishman on the panel was unimpressed with his colleagues' Anglocentric selections.

Roy Keane unimpressed with Overlap's England-Spain XI

It should perhaps not be a surprise that the trio of pundits alongside Roy Keane made a combined selection packed with England players.

The final count was seven English players to four Spanish, with more than a few eyebrow-raising selections.

Even more bemusing was Gary Neville's assertion that the selections were based on players' performance during the tournament thus far, making a mockery of the imbalance in selection.

Spain have excelled in just about every game they have played thus far, while one could argue that the game against the Netherlands was the first truly good performance England have put in all summer.

It was equally unsurprising that Roy Keane looked totally baffled by his fellow pundits' selection.

(The team selection begins at 39:32 in the above video)

It did not take long for Keane's bewilderment to become apparent, with the Irishman silently staring at Gary Neville when the de-facto host asked how many English players would make it into the Spanish team.

Jordan Pickford was selected in goal, despite Keane's protestations, while the Corkman would begrudgingly agree ("just about") that Kyle Walker would plump Dani Carvajal (a hugely debatable call).

John Stones was selected at centre-back alongside the Spanish duo of Aymeric Laporte and Marc Cucurella on the left-hand side of the defence.

Keane was not having Ian Wright arguing the case of Declan Rice, definitively stating that Rodri and Fabian Ruiz were the undisputed selection at the base of midfield.

Once the duo of Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka were suggested over the electric Spanish pair of Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, Keane simply sat back and announced he was staying out of the discussion - making his feelings abundantly clear.

Eventually, Keane relented and allowed Foden to be selected - another hugely questionable call given his poor form in comparison even with Saka during this tournament.

By the end, with the count at seven English players, Roy Keane looked begrudgingly away from the panel. It was hard not to share his bemusement.

We will see which team truly has the best lineup on Sunday night, when they meet in what is set to be a mouthwatering final in Berlin. Kick-off is at 8pm Irish time - and Keane, Wright, and Neville will be on punditry duty on ITV from the Olympiastadion.
