Roy Keane has always been a no-nonsense kind of person, there is no denying.

Not only was the former Manchester United captain a fearsome presence on the pitch but that has extended to his punditry. Keane has regularly torn into Premier League stars on Sky punditry duty - not least the underperforming bunch at his former club United of late.

However, his no-nonsense, no-frills attitude evidently spreads elsewhere too, with Keane's approach to technology and social media

When Keane started his Instagram account during the COVID-19 pandemic, it took the social media platform by storm - as it did when he reactivated the account earlier this year. The Corkonian is not a man one would immediately think of when picturing the world of influencers and photo dump posts.

On the evidence of the latest episode of 'Stick to Football,' it might be just as well, given the ancient and tattered phone Keane continues to use to this day.

Overlap quartet rip into Roy Keane's phone

On this week's episode of 'Stick to Football' with Sky Bet, Roy Keane's ex-Manchester United teammate Gary Neville demanded the Irishman hand over his phone.

Keane duly obliged, before Neville proceeded to showcase the battered state his colleague's phone was in.

It's hard to make out exactly what make of iPhone it is but, as the iPhone 8 was the last to have a home button, it can't be any more recent than the release of that model in 2017.

Unlike Nokia - the dominant force of the previous era of phones - Apple phones are not renowned for their longevity, making it all the more impressive that Keane has made the phone last to this day (though it must be said that the screen looks to be in a sorry, smashed-up condition).

Naturally, Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, and Ian Wright were all too happy to take the piss out of Keane's choice of phone.

Neville: Show me the phone, honestly you need to see this at home. It literally makes me wince all the time.

Scott: It's still got the button! Phones don't have buttons anymore

Wright: You might think, 'oh I'll send him a phone' - he doesn't want one.

Neville: It's an iPhone -4

Wright: It's the prototype

Carragher: It's the cracks in his screen...

Scott: He cuts his thumb every time he goes on it.

Keane: I met you [Scott] for a coffee last week and you slag me...

Evidently, Roy Keane is not particularly fussed by modern technology. We won't expect to see him rushing to the local Apple store for the iPhone 16 any time soon.
