While there is far from any guarantee that their paths will cross in the near future, there is little doubt that this is a big summer for both Manchester United and Harry Kane.
It clear that United will need a big summer if they are to push onto a new level next season. While they will finish second in the Premier League this weekend, they seem well away from competing with Manchester City. They also have the matter of resurgent Liverpool and Chelsea sides to contend with in the coming months.
A striker could be an area of priority and it does seem like the team will require some more firepower if they are to compete on both domestic and continental fronts.
It just so happens that one of the game's most prolific strikers is looking for a move this summer.
Harry Kane is angling for a move away from Spurs, with United one of the few teams that could realistically afford a deal to prise him from North London. Daniel Levy will certainly want to keep his star man but a deal could be struck if the money is right.
This would seem like an ideal marriage for both club and player, and it is one Roy Keane has long been calling for.
Back in 2019, after United had taken part in a lacklustre draw against league leaders Liverpool at Old Trafford, he said that his former team should just go and nab Kane from Spurs in order to ease their problems.
It was a statement that drew some bemused looks from his fellow pundits.

Over 18 months on, those comments don't seem quite so ridiculous.
During this time, there was little sense that United could overpower Spurs in the transfer market. In fact, there was no consensus that a move to Old Trafford would be a step up for the striker at this point, with Spurs having reached a Champions League final only a few months earlier.
However, it seems like now is the time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side could force Tottenham's hand.
They are one of the few clubs in world football that still have large cash reserves despite the pandemic. Their owners are also likely to make a big signing this summer in order to attempt to appease an increasingly agitated fan base.
United could likely produce the sort of deal that Daniel Levy would accept. In fact, they are probably the only club in world football likely to do so this summer.
Keane's instructions to 'just go and get him' seem more realistic now than they did in October of 2019.
Speaking on Sky Sports last weekend after the news of Keane's desire to leave had broken, he said he felt that Kane would relish a move to Manchester.

If they want to get back to winning titles, they certainly need another striker. Kane or Haaland, I'd take any of them
Probably Haaland (would be Keane's choice) because of his age and the investment behind it, but I wouldn't say no to Kane either if he was the second option.
I think Kane fancies United, I just have that feeling that he would fancy United.
It will be interesting to see what will happen on this front in the weeks ahead.
