Roy Keane Was Having None Of The Idea That Man Utd's Season Has Been Successful

Despite currently sitting in a very disappointing sixth in the Premier League table, many Manchester United fans feel conflicted as to how they should view Jose Mourinho's first season in charge at Old Trafford.

The reason for that is that should United go on and win the Europa League, they will have won two cups and qualified for next season's Champions League, which would have been the main target at the start of the season.

Some will argue that Mourinho has managed to meet the minimum requirements for success with a squad that is not his, while others, such as Roy Keane, believe that the amount of money spent in the summer, and the fact that the results that have cost the club have come against sides they should be beating at home, mean that this year has not been a successful one.

Speaking on ITV ahead of Man Utd's Europa League semi-final second leg with Celta Vigo, Keane rubbished the idea that Mourinho's first season has been a success.

The look on his face when presented with the idea that it had been a success was outstanding.

I wouldn't go that far. No, I don't care, I still wouldn't go that far.

For a club like Man Utd, winning the League Cup and the Europa League with the teams that are in it you'd expect them to do that, but to be so far behind in the league, I think it's nothing short of embarrassing.

For someone as ultra-competitive as Keane, you couldn't expect anything different.

Manchester United are currently 19 points behind champions-elect Chelsea, which is a gap that is unquestionably going to have to be shortened next season, but Mourinho will face a very difficult time if his decision to put all his eggs into the Europa League basket does not work out as planned.
