Manchester United and Liverpool played out a thrilling draw at Old Trafford this afternoon, with both sides giving up leads as the game finished in a 2-2 draw.

Jurgen Klopp's side created the better chances in the game, especially in the first half. They took the lead through Luis Diaz in the 23rd minute and should have added at least one more to their tally before the interval. However, they were wasteful with the opportunities they created.

The game was flipped on its head in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes scored with Manchester United's first shot of the game, capitalising on a loose pass from Jarell Quansah to score into an empty net from distance.

They would add a second a few minutes later.

Kobbie Mainoo was the man to get it, producing a beautiful curled finish to give his side the lead. While United would maintain that lead going into the closing stages, Liverpool would eventually find an equaliser.

Mohamed Salah got it from the penalty spot, converting after Harvey Elliott was taken down in the box by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In the end, it was a result that neither team came away all that pleased with.

Roy Keane had surprising take on Liverpool draw at Old Trafford

This was a fantastic game of football to watch, and also one that was difficult to analyse.

Liverpool created the better chances, but their wastefulness in front of goal meant that it was difficult to argue that they deserved to win the game. As for Manchester United, they were not at their best but did score two exceptional goals.

Klopp's men may well feel it was two points dropped, especially in the context of this seasons title race.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Roy Keane was surprisingly upbeat about what this performance and result could mean for Liverpool moving forward.

Honestly, I can't believe what I'm watching the last few games.

Today's game was absolutely crazy. The managers must be pulling their hair out. It was really enjoyable because of the entertainment side of it.

I was slightly disappointed with Liverpool towards the end. With their performance they should have won the game, but you take a point at the end. That point might be vital at the end of the season. You're 2-1 down at Old Trafford with five minutes to go, it's never that easy.

Jurgen Klopp will have, I'm sure, mixed emotions. [He will be] delighted in general with the performance, they gifted United back into the game, but they clawed their way back to get a draw.

At the end of the season that might be vital. We will find out.

Overall it was a mad, mad game. Credit to both sets of players, they went for it and we saw four goals. Honestly, a mad game.

This result sees Liverpool drop to second in the Premier League, trailing Arsenal on goal difference. Manchester City sit a point further back in third.

A win at Old Trafford certainly would have been a statement from the visitors, although this could well end up being a good result in the long run.

We will get a better idea as to how vital it could be towards the end of the season.
