Roy Keane cut a despondent figure in the ITV Studio last Sunday, as Jude Bellingham scored a spectacular overhead kick to rescue England's EURO 2024 hopes.

Ivan Schranz looked to have secured a monumental shock for Slovakia, who led 1-0 in the 95th minute of their last 16 tie with England.

However, Bellingham would pull out a sensational moment of skill to send the game to extra-time, during which Harry Kane would secure the win for England.

It was one of the goals of the tournament thus far, though Roy Keane captured the mood of many Irish viewers with his reaction in the ITV studio in Berlin.

Keane was part of ITV's punditry panel for the game, alongside Englishmen Gary Neville and Ian Wright.

As Neville and Wright euphorically celebrated Bellingham's wonder goal along with the (presumably) English staff in the studio, Keane strolled away with a quietly disappointed smirk on his face.

The trio published the latest edition of their Stick to Football podcast in association with Sky Bet on Saturday morning, recorded from central Berlin.

Alongside Jill Scott, Keane, Neville and Wright discussed England's chances of going all the way - and a hilarious exchange saw the Irishman call out his English colleagues for their "childish" celebrations on Sunday evening.

Roy Keane had dig for England colleagues on ITV panel

With all the criticism surrounding the England team thus far at EURO 2024, it was somewhat surprising to hear Roy Keane speak positively about their chances of going all the way at the tournament.

The Manchester United legend said on this week's Stick to Football that he expected England to reach the final.

Keane did, however, say that he hoped he would not have to deal with the same wild celebrations from his English colleagues in the event the team did progress deeper into the tournament, prompting a brilliant exchange.

Keane: "If England get to the semi-final or the final and it's ugly, there will be nobody complaining."

Neville: "Will they get to the semi-final?"

Keane: "I think they'll beat Switzerland, yeah. But ye won't be jumping around like the last time, you'll be mature this time, won't ye?"

Wright: "It's not as easy as that-"

Keane: "Ah no...childish.

Wright: "It's 85 seconds [from the end] - we're writing an obituary!"

Keane: "It doesn't matter! Ye weren't even watching the game, you were texting somebody!"

Wright: "I wasn't texting, I was trying to write down notes, 'How am I going to say this now?'"

Keane: "You never celebrated like that when you played for England! That's the bit that gets me!"

It's easy to understand why England fans celebrated Bellingham's goal so fervently. However, it is equally easy to understand why many Irish fans will begrudge them those celebrations in the same manner as Roy Keane did.

The Corkonian would also call out what he perceived as arrogance from England fans during EURO 2024 thus far.

Keane argued that progressing through the tournament was the most important thing, and said that fans should not care whether or not the team was playing well.

He added that he felt the intense scrutiny on the team from those in England felt rooted in arrogance surrounding their style of play.

Saturday evening brings England's quarter-final match-up with Switzerland. Kick-off in Dusseldorf is at 5pm Irish time, with the game live on RTÉ 2 and BBC One.
