Roy Keane and co. returned to the Overlap studio this week after a brief summer break, as the English football season kicks into gear once more.

The original quintet of Keane, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott and Ian Wright were reunited, after a summer which saw Carragher absent from the podcast during its stint in Berlin for the EUROs.

Since returning from Germany, the crew have taken some down time, and the beginning of this week's 'Stick to Football' in association with Sky Bet saw the group recount some of their summer adventures.

Of most interest was Gary Neville's appearance as a DJ at the recent Kendal Calling music festival - a decision which had Roy Keane utterly flabbergasted.

Roy Keane in disbelief Gary Neville agreed to music festival appearance

Those heading down to Stradbally this weekend will no doubt have eagerly picked out the artists on their "must-see" list for Electric Picnic. It's hard to imagine there were many who saw the name "Gary Neville" on the Kendal Calling lineup poster and had any reaction other than "what the hell is this?"

The former Manchester United captain is close friends with Tim Burgess, frontman of The Charlatans. When Burgess was added to the lineup for the recent festival in England's north-west, he asked Neville to join him on stage for a DJ set.

Footage emerged on social media of Neville taking a Liverpool flag from a fan in the crowd and throwing it off stage.

Neville told his companions on The Overlap of his antics on stage, revealing it was his first ever trip to a music festival.

Though Ian Wright and Jill Scott seemed particularly intrigued by Neville's newfound love for DJing, his former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane was utterly perplexed by his decision to accept the gig.

In a back-and-forth that lasted several minutes, Keane could not understand what Neville thought the crowd were getting out of seeing a former footballer in place of a DJ.

Keane: What were you doing there? FOMO - that's you! What were you doing on a stage with a DJ?!

Neville: It was with Tim Burgess from the Charlatans-

Keane: I don't care who he is!

Wright: What's wrong with-

Keane: I'm not talking to you! [...] So, you go to a concert and yeah it's brilliant to watch it - but what are you going on stage for?! You think people who bought the ticket want to see you on stage?

Neville: Roy, did you see the crowd? It was amazing!

Keane: Not for you, for them! I get you going but why are you going on stage? You went to Bruce Springsteen, did you go on the stage with Bruce? Why would you not go on stage with Bruce Springsteen?

Neville: I think that would be quite a fun thing to do.

Keane: Why?! To do what?! Just stand on the stage?

In fairness to Gary Neville, his name was listed alongside Tim Burgess' on the lineup poster, meaning that any of the crowds who packed out the Kendal Calling tent were at least intrigued enough to see what he had to offer on the decks.

Though he admitted he had little more to do than simply press play, it seemed as though Neville made the most of his experience, bringing some big energy to the stage that was reminiscent of some of the wild celebrations from his playing days.

Earlier this year, Neville revealed that a previous remark from Keane encouraging him to slow down and take care of his health had struck a chord with him. When he brought up those previous remarks on this week's 'Stick to Football,' Keane had a response ready to go.

Wright: This could be him!

Keane: But it's not him now!

Wright: But it might be!

Keane: It's not him, Gandhi!

Neville: Roy, one week you say, 'Relax, chill out, go to concerts-'

Keane: Yeah, go to concerts but don't go on the stage! I went to Stevie Nicks a few weeks ago, I didn't want to go on the stage with her!

Safe to say we won't expect to see Roy Keane joining Bono and co. on stage next time U2 come to town.
