Manchester United and Liverpool played out a game absolutely nobody was expecting in Anfield on Sunday, with nothing able to separate the league leaders and Ruben Amorim's men in a 2-2 draw.

In what was an underwhelming first half, a reinvigorated Manchester United side worked hard to merely remain in the game, heading down the tunnel having kept the affair scoreless.

Whatever the first half didn't deliver, the second more than made up for. It was Manchester United who bore the rewards of their perseverance first, with Lisandro Martinez taking full advantage of Trent Alexander's utterly sloppy defending to put the visitors one ahead and quite literally send the away end through the hoardings.

It was a short-lived exuberance however, with Cody Gakpo levelling the affair less than seven minutes later before Mo Salah made it 2-1 thanks to a 69th-minute penalty.

While both sides went toe-to-toe for the remaining twenty minutes, it was Amad who claimed the all-important equaliser ensuring his side left enemy territory with the most unlikely of points.

Roy Keane defends Zirkzee despite Sturridge criticism

While Manchester United and Liverpool rather fairly settled for a share of the spoils, the visitors had a nail-biting chance to steal three points at the death when Zirkzee sent a bobbling cross into Harry Maguire who was square with the goal, only for Maguire to blast it over the bar.

Discussing the chance on Sky Sports Super Sunday after the game, Roy Keane and Daniel Sturridge butted heads over who was at fault, with Keane planting his flag firmly in Zirkzee's camp as Daniel Sturridge tried to blame his pass for Maguire's miss.

His confidence wouldn't be sky-high after getting taken off the other night. Daniel is saying he could give him a better pass, know your player, he's not gonna give you (one) his confidence isn't sky-high.

While Sturridge came firing back claiming that a Premier League player should be capable of better passes, Keane wasn't in the mood for compromising.

No Daniel, he's passing to a Premier League player, he's passing to an England international player. Know your players he's not going to give you that perfect pass, expect the bobble into you. He's not going to zip it into you perfectly is he, you gotta hit the target Harry.

You said about strikers earlier 'just hit the target'. Hit the target, if it gets blocked no problem.

Eventually, Keane wore Sturridge down to a resigned 'fair enough', with the former Liverpool star accepting that Maguire should've struck the ball on the bounce and Keane clarifying that Maguire wasn't fully at fault but deserved to shoulder some of the blame.

Despite the single point proving only enough to see Manchester United in thirteenth place in the standings, Sunday's draw certainly felt like it could mean more in spirit than it does in points with Ruben Amorim's men delivering their most complete performance since the Portuguese manager arrived.
