Casemiro had a nightmare against Liverpool last week, as he was at fault for two of the three goals that Man United conceded and was hooked off at half-time.

Rumours circulated that he even left the stadium early, but manager Erik ten Hag insists that this did not happen, and that the substitute was a tactical decision to bring on some energy against a rampant Liverpool team.

The Brazilian had a brilliant first year as a Red Devil, but struggled in his second season as the team finished in eighth place, and a lot of the blame was placed on the midfield.

Now another year in his 30s, fans are starting to wonder if he has the energy that is required to play the defensive midfield role, or 'number 6 role', as it is referred too.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Stick to Football podcast, Keane felt that a change in position could extend Casemiro's career at Old Trafford.

“I wouldn’t be writing him off yet,” the pundit said on the Stick to Football podcast.

“His role in the team, if he gets back in and a couple of games under his belt, might be a bit higher up the pitch.

“The first thing we always say is, ‘he can’t get around the pitch’. But what we’ve seen going forward, he does have an eye for a pass. Set-pieces, how many times does he get his head on it?”

Keane continued: “He’s come back and he’s lost a lot of weight, sometimes that can affect a player.

“Players becoming fitness freaks - you can go too far the other way. You still need that strength and power in the middle of the park.”

United have also spent £50m on Manuel Ugarte, who plays as a sitting defensive midfielder, so Keane's solution could be a win-win for both player and the club.
