The cold nature of Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson's relationship is infamous by now.

Keane was captain during many of the most successful years of Ferguson's reign as Manchester United manager, but the pair fell out at the conclusion of Keane's playing career.

An explosive interview given by Keane to the club's TV channel MUTV led to his acrimonious departure midway through the 2005-06 season, and his relationship with Ferguson was frosty at best for the coming years.

Though the pair appear to have reconciled somewhat - shaking hands on the sideline when they met as managers in the Premier League in 2007 - there is still an edge at times.

As part of his duties with 'The Overlap' this week, Keane made a humorous jab at his former manager for missing a Manchester derby for his son's wedding in 2000.

Roy Keane recalls Alex Ferguson missing Manchester derby

Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Jill Scott, and Micah Richards took part in a Manchester derby-themed quiz for 'The Overlap' this week, with the biggest derby in living memory set to take place in Saturday's FA Cup final.

The quartet quizzed each other on iconic moments from their playing careers, and the history of the famous rivalry.

When a question popped up about the first derby Keane and Neville both played in in 1995, both ex-players tried to remember which derby game it was, with Neville mentioning a later game in the 2000-01 season which manager Alex Ferguson had missed.

When Scott questioned why Ferguson had been missing, Keane had a cheeky dig at his old boss:

His son was getting married.

Obviously. Because he always did what was right for Man United but, obviously, he went to his son's wedding...

Steve [McClaren] took it - well, actually, we took it.

United would win that derby 1-0 at Maine Road, with Steve McClaren taking charge for one game and one game only in Ferguson's absence.

The wedding had initially been fixed for during an international break, before a change in the football calendar led to it clashing with a pivotal Manchester derby - and Ferguson could hardly have been expected to miss such an important day for his family.

The man who sat in the manager's hotseat that day, McClaren will be on the Manchester United bench for a derby again on Saturday, as they face City in the FA Cup final at Wembley. McClaren returned to the club as an assistant to new manager Erik Ten Hag last summer, and has aided in leading them back to the Champions League.

We can expect to see Roy Keane on punditry duty for ITV on Saturday - and, unlike that 2000 derby, it's likely that Alex Ferguson will also be in attendance, this time merely as a fan.
