Roy Keane, Thierry Henry, and Kenny Dalglish have won ten Premier League titles between them, and they came together for a 90-minute long chat to reminisce about 25-years of the Premier League.
While Henry was effusive in his praise for Manchester United throughout (he called Alex Ferguson Mr. Premier League, and reckons they should rename the trophy in his honour), but found Roy Keane to be slightly more grudging in doling out respect to Arsenal.
In fairness to Keane, he did say he relished battles with Arsenal, saying that if he could go back in time to play in any fixture, it would be that one. He was also quick to point out that, for all the much-mythologised physicality, the games were of extremely high quality.
But some of Arsenal's behaviour evidently still rankles, specifically in relation to the infamous clash in 2003. In September, Arsenal came to Old Trafford, and escaped with a 0-0 draw. Patrick Viera had been sent off earlier in the game for kicking out at Ruud Van Nistelrooy, despite not making any contact with the Dutchman.
Then, in the final minute of stoppage time, Manchester United were awarded a penalty when Martin Keown hauled down Diego Forlan. Van Nistelrooy stepped up to seal the game....and he hit the bar. After the game, Keown gloated to Van Nistelrooy's face, and a collection of Arsenal players converged to shove the United striker. The FA handed down fines to five Arsenal players and two United players.
The incident was dredged up with Keane and Henry, with the Frenchman eager to caveat it with the earlier red card for Viera. Keane was in no mood to agree, and said that Keown's behaviour was "disgraceful", and went on to argue that "Patrick got himself sent off". The cheeky smile to Dalglish proves that Keane enjoyed prodding Henry, to which you can see Dalglish smile toward a chuckling producer in the background.
