The BBC reported last night that Wayne Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford, is in China to negotiate a possible move to the Chinese Super League for the Manchester United forward. It's said that a transfer is unlikely to happen before Tuesday's deadline but a summer move is a real possibility for Rooney.
On ITV's Champions League highlights show last night, Roy Keane said it would be 'madness' for Rooney to join a Chinese side.
Keane certainly has a stronger belief in Rooney's abilities at this point in his career than many others.
There's no way Wayne Rooney should be going to China. He can still play at the top level, in England, Germany, Spain, Italy.
Madness.
Without a shadow of a doubt [he could still play for a big club in England]. Going to China - madness. He 31-years-old. There's still plenty left here for Wayne Rooney here to do, in Europe.
Asked about the lure of the Chinese Super League's mountains of cash, Keane was dismissive.
I don't think he's short of money, is he?
Manchester United won their fifth consecutive game on Wednesday night, progressing to the last-16 of the Europa League after a 1-0 win, 4-0 on aggregate - against Saint-Étienne.
After Mark Pougatch suggested to Keane that Jose Mourinho has some 'swagger' back in his demeanour, the Ireland assistant manager responded that it was a 'pity'.
Yeah, which is a pity really because you'd like to see a bit more humility. You knew once they started winning a few games that he'd get back to his old cocky self.
Earlier in the show, Keane spoke about Antoine Griezmann - a player he became well-acquainted with during the summer at Euro 2016.
The Corkman is an undoubted fan of the Atletico Madrid striker and believes he would be a superb signing for Man Utd.
