Ending of one of the greatest bromances of the modern era, Roy Keane has broken his partnership with Martin O'Neill by walking away from his role as assistant manager at Nottingham Forest.
The news came as a bit of a shock when it broke earlier today, with there being very little previous indication that Keane would be on his way. While things had not gone all that well for Forest over the second half of the season, it had been expected the Corkman would be back for pre-season.
It has been speculated that Keane is now on the hunt for a managerial position of his own, seeking his first role as a number one since he left Ipswich Town in 2011.
But what if he was offered a different role, one at the club he was a key part of during the most successful period in the club's history? We are of course talking about Manchester United.
When the news broke of Keane's availability, it was not long before some United fans voiced their hope that their former captain would return to the club in some capacity. Keane has been a vocal critic of the culture currently present in the United dressing room, something he wouldn't be long about sorting out were he to return to Old Trafford.
I would take Roy Keane at UNITED in a heartbeat

Somebody get Roy Keane to give the United players a dose of reality. Actually while you’re at it, nut Ed Woodward one too. #mufc 😂

I would happily take Roy Keane in united backroom staff, hes the type of dickhead we need to sort the players out

Of course, this seems unlikely to happen. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already has his coaching staff in place, and there doesn't seem to be room for a personality as big as Keane's. The man himself also wants to be a number one again.
Still, we'd love to see this happen.
However, there was one person that was worried for the safety of all involved should this move come to fruition.
Roy Keane has left his job at Forest.
Before people link him with a role at United... Just remember, if that did happen, he would be serving 8-16 years for manslaughter after one week in and around that dressing room.— ManUnitedTalk (@ManUnitedTalk) June 23, 2019
