Roy Hodgson's opening words at his press conference in Chantilly really summed up his time as England manager - 'I don't know what I'm doing here.'
Many England fans have been wondering the same thing for the last four years.
After England were dumped out of Euro 2016 last night, Hodgson stepped in front of the media to read a statement announcing his resignation. He felt those words should have been sufficient and that he had not further case to answer for.

Hodgson's lack of understanding as to why he had to be present today is something which he reiterated during press conference. However, he denied that he had been forced to attend.
It was during this denial that he appeared to contradict himself by saying that he had been 'anxious to make sure no one in the room could accuse him of being afraid to face the media'. That would certainly appear to be a reason for his attendance.

Hodgson was not the only one at the press conference lacking a keen PR sense. Martin Glenn - FA CEO - declared that he is 'not a football expert'.
