Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has announced that she attempted to abort her son.

Dolores Aveiro made the declaration in her autobiography 'Mother Courage', which has been released in Portugal today. Averio revealed that her doctor refused her wishes to terminate the pregnancy and that she attempted to abort the baby by drinking warm ale and running 'till she dropped.'
Her unscientific attempts failed and Cristiano was born in February 1985. Aveiro says that he is aware of these stories and the pair now joke about it.
'He told me when he found out, 'Look mum, you wanted to abort and now I'm the one who's pulling the purse-strings in the house.'
