The horrid world of football Twitter was set alight last night when, at first glance, it appeared Cristiano Ronaldo appealed for offside following Alvaro Morata's late winning goal versus Athletic Bilbao.
Morata bundled the ball home after his first-time effort was initially parried by Athletic 'keeper Gorka Iraizoz, and Ronaldo - who missed a host of chances both before and after his teammate's winner - raised his right arm aloft before glancing towards the linesman. You can check out the goal and some of the subsequent reaction from some of the world wide web's finest sporf b****r accounts below.

What's wrong with Ronaldo?https://t.co/tJHlZXjgUa— Football Factly (@FootballFactly) October 23, 2016
'Looools' and emojis indeed.
Except Ronaldo, egotism notwithstanding, wasn't appealing for offside. He was merely celebrating a teammate's goal, right hand aloft, and looked toward the linesman presumably to ease any of his own fears as to the legitimacy of the goal.
Many CR7 defenders and equally gross Ronaldo fan accounts stormed to their man's defence, noting that the 31-year-old Portuguese forward often celebrates his side's goals with his right arm aloft. Truth be told, such a reaction is hardly an alien concept for any human being who, say, is right-handed, or enjoys football even vaguely.
The three-time Ballon D'Or winner interestingly meets both criteria. His arrogance precedes him and doubters - or indeed 'haters' remain - but for the sake of balance, here he is celebrating Sergio Ramos' Champions League final goals versus Atlético in both 2014 and 2016.
LOOOOOOOOOL.
Thank Christ Twitter wasn't around when Alan Shearer appealed for offside after 260 of his Premier League goals.
