Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho is currently embroiled in controversy, with the former Brazil star ordered by a court to pay €2 million after failing to pay a fine for illegal construction in 2015.
Ronaldinho along with his brother were fined three years ago after building a property in Porto Alegre without the required permits and planning.
A court has also ruled that the 38-year-old's passport be seized, with authorities finding a cumulative sum of around €6 in his bank account according to a report by MARCA.
A statement from Judge Newton Fabrício following the reads as follows:
The subjects responsible for the depletion of the environment have long been evading compliance with their legal obligations, even though they have the means to settle it and are public figures with high purchasing power able to compensate for the environmental damages that remain fully defaulted.
Although photographed routinely in different parts of the world, corroborated by the gathering of Certificates of Migratory Movements, the defendants, curiously, in their country of origin, have an uncertain and/or unknown whereabouts.
I determine the immediate seizure of the passports of the defendants by the authorities, with the additional order to include restriction on issuing a new passport until the fulfilment of the obligation determined in the sentence.
Ronaldinho's apparent financial difficulties are in stark contrast to his lifestyle, with the former footballer travelling to China and Japan recently for advertising purposes.
Nike have also recently released a line of shoes with the Brazilian, so you expect that he must have a bit of spare change knocking around.
