Romelu Lukaku last night scored his first goal for Manchester United last night, in a pre-season friendly against Real Salt Lake.
His goal proved to be the winner in a 2-1 victory, and the manner of the goal offers a glimpse as to what Lukaku will offer United next season.
While Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a revelation for United last season, he (understandably) lacked the pace to hurt teams by running in behind them, meaning United were devoid of a counter-attacking option against the top teams. This was a problem: United didn't score away to any of the sides that finished above them until their trip to Tottenham in May.
United did offer an added threat with the pace of Marcus Rashford, but he lacked Zlatan's physicality. In Lukaku, however, United may have got the best of both worlds.
The prime example is his running in behind against Real Salt Lake, which you can watch below.
While that goal augurs well, the game was not without a cost: Juan Mata was substituted through injury, while Antonio Valencia was sent-off.
