Damien Delaney and Roma are not two things you hear mentioned together very often, but the 36-year-old defender seems to be the darling of the Serie A club, and it seems we now know the reason why.
The club's official Twitter acccount posted a tribute to the defender when it was annouced he would be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season, and the internet was awash with reasons as to what connection Delaney and Roma had:

Today it was announced that the former Ireland international will return to the League Of Ireland with Cork City and again Roma's official Twitter account was quick to celebrate the move:

Many Twitter users are claiming that the reason Delaney is popular with Roma is because he saved the son of a Roma director in London:
He saved a Roma directors child's life apparently. Not sure of the exact story

There is barely any news about it. The only stuff on it are tweets but the story supposedly is that while in a London hotel a fire alarm went off and while evacuating a ladder broke and the boy on it fell but Delaney caught him.

Well they didn’t announce it but are spreading the news. The back story is that Delaney saved a Roma directors child from a near fatal accident at a London hotel. They tweeted #GrazieDamien a few weeks ago and are just following up and congratulating him on his return home

A bizarre reason if true. And here was me thinking it was some Twitter b*nter merchant behind all the hullabaloo, but then again that still may be the case.
