Liverpool's mid-week victory against Roma has become partially overshadowed by terribly upsetting injuries sustained by an Irish fan supporting his side in Anfield on Tuesday night.
Ruthlessly attacked by two Roma fans who have been charged with his assault, Jurgen Klopp has been amongst the most vocal of those condemning this act, and extending their prayers for Sean Cox and his family.
Undoubtedly representative of a troubling minority, the Roma president James Pallotta has expressed his grief for Cox, and called for greater action in halting behaviour like this going forward:
I don't want to talk about the game at all at Liverpool. ... These games are great but they are not life and death and what's going on now with Sean Cox in Liverpool ... that is life and death and that effects his family. And I don't really give a shit about the score at the end of the day.
Keen to absolve the club and their '99.9% of fans who are great,' Palotta's ire focused on those 'few outside of the game' who are ensuring that greater change is required:
We have a long history at Roma [and] a few stupid people [are trying to] destroy our history and attack our legacy ... and I'm tired of it.
Suggesting that the problem extends across the whole of Italy, the President is keen to stamp out 'a couple of fucking morons that take the rest of us down.'
