Roma's Twitter account has left everyone scratching their heads after they tweeted a bizarre tribute to Irish defender Damien Delaney.

The 36-year-old has recently announced that he is set to leave Selhurst Park after six years when his contract expires in the summer, but who would have thought that his exit would have such an impact in Italy.

Fans have been left trying to work out the link between Delaney and the Serie A side. My hot take is that it's just a clever way to drum up a bit of social media buzz.

After Delaney's Palace won 2-0 against West Brom on the final day of the season, the Corkman publicly thanked the fans and the club for his six years in London:

Listen lads, from the bottom of my heart, as much as you think that I've done for you, you've done so much more for me.

The six or seven years I've had at this club have been truly amazing.

You helped me out of a place I never thought I'd be in and took me somewhere I definitely didn't think I would be. I'm forever grateful to you, thanks so much.
