The terms of the deal are certainly interesting. It is worth considering that Rodgers may have been the one to suggest the terms as it would look like this plan isn't exactly long term, or at least both parties want to see how it goes before making any major commitments, otherwise a longer contract would surely have been agreed.
Nevertheless, Celtic have found their replacement for Ronny Delia and it isn't Roy Keane, which will at least ensure that the Republic of Ireland manager doesn't have to spend Euro 2016 answering questions about reports linking him to the role.
Rodgers will now have to decide to forego his £100,000 severance payment from being sacked from Liverpool to join the club. It's rumoured that Rodgers has been offered a salary of over £1 million a year, overtaking Martin O'Neill as the highest paid Celtic manager in history.
Celtic owner Dermot Desmond had confirmed previously that any contract would be largely incentive based, and said that Rodgers was one of the six people interviewed:
We’re excited about the candidates that we have and, hopefully, in the next four or five days we’ll be able to make an announcement. We’d like to think Celtic is a very big club and it needs a great manager to manage such a great club.
We’re looking forward to the next manager building us up to Champions League contenders. It must be the right man.
I can’t tell a lie. He’s [Rodgers] a great manager. He has proved it at Liverpool and he’s a worthy candidate for Celtic, as all the other candidates are.
It's an appointment that is sure to please Celtic and Republic of Ireland legend Packie Bonner, who was calling for the club to appoint Rodgers just yesterday. That doesn't seem to be a consensus opinion amongst Celtic fans, who seemed to be very split down the middle about Rodgers' abilities as a manager.
Can someone please tell Dermot Desmond that it was Brendan Rodgers who signed Alberto Moreno for £12m #Celtic
