No matter where the tributes came from, you just knew they were genuine. When a public figure passes away there is often a clamour to pay tribute for the sake of paying tribute. You may not have known the person but you still pay tribute, it's the right thing to do.
It wasn't like that yesterday. Everyone who paid tribute felt like they knew Bill O'Herlihy. We all did. And while we may not all be world class writers, we still tried to sum up what he meant to us all. Perhaps we should have just left Roddy Doyle at it.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Doyle has penned a short passage of prose to sum up the minimalist brilliance of Bill.
