Everton fans can relax in the knowledge that Irish midfielder James McCarthy is going nowhere anytime soon as Sky Sports News have confirmed that he will sign a bumper 5-year extension to his current deal.

McCarthy has been consistently linked with a move away from Goodison Park to the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but now it seems clear that his future is on Merseyside as Martinez adamantly insisted that McCarthy, who has made 27 appearances for the Republic of Ireland since 2010, is there for the long haul.
The situation is James is not going anywhere. There are reports of a possible sale and I can guarantee that is not going to happen because he’s a player we want to build our future around and he has got a long, long-term contract, another four years, and we made a big investment in him.
He was a big investment from the Championship when we brought him in, we want the player to be happy, and we hope we will get the positive news over the next few days – on everyone; on any player that has been mentioned that could be leaving.
The contract will add five years on to his current deal, keeping McCarthy tied down at Everton until 2020, and with Martinez saying such positive things about building the club's future around him, surely that is good news for both McCarthy, and indeed for Ireland fans as he will be assured of regular playing time in the Premier League, something that would not be a guarantee at a club like Manchester City.
Considering Seamus Coleman signed a five year extension at Everton last summer, we could be seeing a strong Irish contingent on the blue half of Merseyside for some time.
