The next season of Gogglebox should really be set in a TV studio during a football broadcast. Earlier this week we saw the magnificent Match of the Day studio reaction as Iceland humiliated brave, plucky England. RTE did this during the 2002 World Cup, but sadly haven't repeated the feat since.
Whereas the Match of the Day clip came from Rio Ferdinand's website, ESPN kept their cameras rolling on Michael Ballack and Roberto Martinez during last night's agonising/tense/shite penalty shoot-out between Germany and Italy. The most amazing part of this is Roberto Martinez virtually transforming into another person, coming across as a hulking and furious soprano, entirely incongruous with his dainty and angelic, definitely-apologises-for-sneezing public persona. It's brilliantly entertaining:
As bizarrely different as that is, Martinez' saying that "there is a football God" is entirely unsurprising.
Aside from that, Roberto: we hardly knew ye.
