It's been a while since we checked in with Tubes and Soccer AM, but perhaps we should be watching more often as their interview with Robbie Keane ahead of the international fixtures last weekend was seriously enjoyable.
Robbie was in a great mood as he discussed a wide range of topics from becoming a manager one day, to phasing out his cartwheel celebration despite the Americans loving it, but Shay Given won't be thrilled with how described him, as a painfully boring room-mate, when he was asked what essentials he brings with him to a tournament like the Euros:
The iPad. In the hotel room for four weeks... Especially if I'm rooming with Shay Given, four weeks could be two years.
The good thing about Shay is, when I'm tired he can tell me a few stories of his Newcastle days with Shearer and stuff like that so, that'll get me to sleep really quickly.
Ah he's a good lad, when he's asleep.
We were also interested to find out that the FAI don't give out caps for each appearance, like the FA do for England and even the IRFU do for the Irish rugby team, but rather they give them out on a yearly basis with all the games you played that year embroidered on the side.
I think in England they get a cap for every game, in Ireland we get them kind of yearly. So you put a few on a cap - which is ridiculous, they should give you a cap every time - say if you played twelve games, they'll have on it '12', between 2006 and 2007 or whatever.
So I've got 12 caps. Ah well.
Speak to the FAI!
It was a cracking interview, and a must watch for any Irish football fan, so here it is in full:
You get the feeling he'd make a decent manager, but he's still got a few miles left in him as a player so hopefully Euro 2016 can go according to plan for Ireland's all-time leading goalscorer.
